Experimental Research - Biomechanics
Balgrist University Hospital has a strong tradition of basic and clinical orthopedic research, and has maintained an active Biomechanics laboratory since 1980.

Historically, Balgrist Biomechanics research has been at the joint level, focusing on characterization of human movement, and objective analysis of surgical approaches to restoring joint function.
Since 2006, Prof. Jess Snedeker was appointed to head the biomechanics laboratory, and has extended the range of research activities in the lab into the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying skeletal homeostasis, pathology, and healing.
