Comprehensive care: here for you

As qualified nursing staff at Balgrist University Hospital, we are responsible for patient care round the clock. Our goal is to offer comprehensive, professional, patient-centred care within an atmosphere of safety and trust, so that we have completely satisfied patients. There is a highly qualified specialist nurse in charge of each ward, who is responsible for all matters relating to quality.

The main areas of nursing care are orthopaedics, rheumatology, spinal cord injury, and rehabilitation. We care for patients in a professional manner, according to their individual needs. Good interprofessional relationships with all those concerned in patient care is extremely important to us. Nursing care at Balgrist University Hospital is ISO certified.

Orthopaedics and rheumatology

As far as orthopaedics are concerned, perioperative care and especially the various types of pain therapy are the main issues. Rheumatology focuses on support in coping with rheumatological diseases. Talking with patients as well as pain management is all part of our routine nursing care.

Spinal cord injuries

The main focus of care for patients with spinal cord injuries lies in rehabilitation. Looking after people who are paralysed requires a high degree of competence in crisis situations, as well as support for them to achieve the greatest possible independence. The care of ventilated patients, promoting the maximum use of resources, instruction and information are all part of a nurse’s daily duties.

Intermediate care unit (IMC)/recovery room

In the IMC unit with its integral recovery room we look after those patients who require intensive care for a short time immediately after their operations. We also provide the initial care for patients who have suffered a back injury and will subsequently be cared for in the Spinal Cord Injury Centre.

Rehabilitation

Balgrist rehabilitation offers patients the opportunity to convalesce in a pleasant atmosphere following a surgical procedure or illness, according to their individual needs. Our goal is to provide patients with the necessary support to achieve the maximum independence and quality of life. The social circumstances are also important. We work together with relatives to prepare for the patient’s return home to familiar surroundings.
