Our Regulations

Mandatory use of face masks and hand disinfection

Mandatory use of face masks and hand disinfection
Like everyone else at Balgrist, patients and visitors are obliged to wear a surgical mask and observe the well-known protective measures both in the hospital building itself and everywhere within the hospital grounds. Please disinfect your hands before entering the hospital and wear a mask (available at the main entrance). Cloth masks are not permitted.

Instructions “Hand disinfection / How to wear a mask” (in German)

Rules for visiting and staying in hospital

Please keep patient visits as short as possible (one hour per patient per day).

  • We recommend that patients who are in hospital for only short periods (less than 4 days) do not have any visitors.
  • Visitors have to wear a surgical mask for the entire visit.
  • Patients also have to wear a surgical mask when they leave their bed or room and whenever members of staff or visitors enter the room.
  • When visiting a patient, you will be given a “Visiting regulations” information sheet. Please complete the form with your personal details (last name, first name, phone number), the date of your visit, and the name of the patient you are visiting. Hand the form over to the staff in the nursing station. Your data will be deleted within three weeks at the outside.

Hygiene and distancing rules

  • Do not shake hands
In view of the current situation, all members of staff, patients, and visitors are instructed not to shake hands.
  • Social distancing
Avoid direct contact with other people and maintain a distance of 1.5 meters whenever possible. Avoid group activities.
  • Hand hygiene
Disinfect your hands at the main entrance before entering the hospital. Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Dispose of used items correctly
Discard used masks and paper tissues in a closed trash can whenever there is one available and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.

The following rules apply to events at Balgrist University Hospital:

  • A maximum of 50 people may be present at an event (including both external guests and members of staff).
  • If it is not possible to maintain a distance of 1.5 meters, appropriate protective measures such as wearing a mask will be imposed and partitions provided wherever possible.
  • Anyone with symptoms should stay at home and get tested.
  • A list will be provided at the beginning of each event to record those present. All participants should add their names to the list.
