Balgrist has been the university hospital for orthopedics for more than 75 years. Its Medical Director is a Full Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Zurich. It involves university research in the field of musculoskeletal medicine, which is conducted at Balgrist University Hospital.
Improving the quality of future medical care, particularly in the field of musculoskeletal medicine, through research and innovation is part of Balgrist’s DNA. Over the past two years, this has been due in no small part to technological advances: the opening of the OR-X research and teaching operating room and the Ingenuity Lab, where, among other things, work is being done on a new tissue adhesive technology for minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery. This shows that with its research, Balgrist University Hospital is shaping the musculoskeletal medicine of tomorrow and pushing the boundaries of what is medically possible.
Research thanks to and with patients
The clinical and basic research at Balgrist University Hospital presented in the report is inspired by patients and their day-to-day challenges in their treatment. The researchers are driven by the desire to bring the results of their work to the hospital bed or operating theater as quickly and safely as possible. This goal motivates the hospital each and every day to develop new treatment options together with partners at the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich and other research institutions.
