Advice after pregnancy and postnatal recovery in an individual setting
Our services at the Center for Sports Medicine
- Individual physiotherapy for the pelvic floor and/or complaints during pregnancy and after birth
- Pelvic floor consultation after birth on a self-pay basis
- Personal training on the subject of training during pregnancy, postnatal recovery, returning to sport, pelvic floor and/or abdominal wall dysfunctions
The WHO recommends that pregnant women exercise regularly and continue their sporting activities, provided there is no risk to mother and baby. We decide together which training is appropriate and to what extent, and adapt the training plan on an ongoing basis to the changes and progression of the pregnancy.
Immediately after the birth, the focus is on regeneration and recovery, which we can actively support. As a result, you will be fit again more quickly for your new everyday life with baby and we can prevent physical and psychological complaints.
After the birth, training of the pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles in particular is resumed as quickly as possible, and the return to sport-specific training is discussed depending on the course of the birth. Both recreational and competitive athletes are guided back to their sport by means of regular assessments.
Gait stability
If you feel unsafe while walking and there is a risk of falling, we’ll teach you in the group how to tackle difficult situations. This includes walking on an uneven surface or while carrying items. Functional strength and coordination exercises are also part of the program. Together with others, you’ll regain confidence in your body and achieve your personal goals step by step.
The course takes place in the main building at Forchstrasse 340. For more information, please contact the Physiotherapy department under the telephone number +41 44 386 15 88.
Aqua gymnastics
Accompanied by music, we execute slow movements in chest-deep or stomach-deep water to strengthen all the body’s muscles. Continual walking movements are easier to perform in water and will get you back in shape. The program also includes various strengthening and mobility exercises for the joints. At the end of the session we stretch and relax your muscles in the warm water.
The course takes place in the main building at Forchstrasse 340. For more information, please contact the Physiotherapy department under the telephone number +41 44 386 15 88.
Water therapy in small groups
The physical properties of water make it particularly suitable for movement therapy. The focus in the pleasantly warm pool is on individual training that addresses the goals of each individual participant. In the group with a maximum of 12 people you can work on improving your agility, coordination, stability, strength or stamina.
The course takes place in the sports/walking pool of Balgrist University Hospital at Forchstrasse 340.
