Philipp Kriechling is a senior physician in orthopedics at Balgrist University Hospital. He studied human medicine in Giessen (Germany), graduating in 2016. He completed his residency training at Balgrist University Hospital from 2016 to 2022, as well as corresponding rotations in the Zurich area at partner hospitals of Balgrist. After completing 6 years as a resident, he completed a 1-year traumatology-orthopedic fellowship at the clinically as well as academically renowned university hospital (“Royal Infirmary”) in Edinburgh (UK) with a special focus on trauma, shoulder and knee surgery. He complements his clinical efforts with an active research activity focusing on 3D surgical planning, augmented reality, and the development of a comprehensive shoulder prosthesis registry. Research results are regularly presented at national and international conferences as well as published in peer-reviewed journals. The highlight of the scientific activity so far was winning the highly endowed Venel Prize of the Swiss Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System twice. The main goal of the research activity is to continuously improve patient treatment and to answer unresolved clinical questions in studies.
